Ginger tea for the soul

In a far away place,
unreachable by public transportation,
or radio waves,
a place where you can't pay with debit cards,
(no, it is not Berlin)
lies a lonely land,
of hope and belief,
where dreams are shaped and encouraged.
Its borders, constantly under siege,
either by social constructs,
or by the reality principle,
hear only the nourishment of your own voice.
If you remain silent,
they will be eroded and violated.

So take care of your voice.
Make sure you rub it with precious ointments,
warm it with ginger tea,
stretch it daily,
aiming at going each day further and further,
enrich it with new vocabulary and assertive intonation.

Grey is what remains when you silence yourself.
You feel empty
because the arias you composed
do not fit your vocal range.
Your hands didn't write the rhythm or the harmony.
People claim it its the best aria ever written.
But when the curtains fall
you can barely speak.
Pain flows from throat to lungs,
burning like chilli pepper seeds.
Air becomes heavy and uninteresting,
floating dusty as old velvet curtains.

To whom have you been performing?
You pilled up accomplishments and gold,
what for?
If no colour or songs can move you from within?

When was the last time you smiled from your stomach?
Your body aligned with other bodies?
A sense of belonging in a happiness other than your own?

You can build the tallest pyramid,
yet, you will never reach your higher self
unless the construction is connected to your bones.
We all need to know when it is time to be the interpreter
or the composer.
Only balance can invite joy to knock on our doors.
And once it does,
we can only convince her to stay,
faithful and robust,
if we share it!
We are encouraged to spread her around through kisses,
hugs or words of affirmation,
To align with our surroundings and to act when needed.

Shared endeavours open roads for your song to echo in,
by giving a new purpose to your vocal chords.
We sing better when in unison!
Only the gifts we give stay alive, bubbling within us!
